Powers and Duties

Parish Councils have a range of responsibilities, duties and powers which are set out in a host of different Acts of Parliament. There is a distinct difference between a duty which is something the Parish Council must do and a power which is something they may do (i.e. discretionary).

Below is a list (but not exhaustive) of general powers and duties of a Parish Council:-
(it should be noted that the Parish Council does not currently use all the powers that are available to it).
